This biome is found throughout mid-latitude regions.
Jun 14, Deciduous trees and shrubs are some of the most beautiful elements in the home landscape. They range in size, form, and color and shed their leaves each fall before they go to sleep for the winter. The term deciduous is a fitting name for these plants as the word means, “tending to fall. The deciduous trees do lose their leaves in winter and then regrow them in Spring. However, we do have quite a lot of the evergreen species of oak here. Oak is usually deciduous and drops its leaves but the evergreen type (Quercus ilex, Holm oak or holly oak) keeps its leaves during winter.
During much of the winter, temperatures are low, and water, which is stored in the form of ice, is not available for plant growth.
Because of the moderate annual rainfall and temperatures, deciduous trees are the dominant plant in this biome. Deciduous trees lose their leaves each fall and remain leafless in the winter. Thus, no photosynthesis occurs in the deciduous trees during the dormant winter period. Each spring, new leaves appear as the temperature increases.
Nov 02, Deciduous trees drop their leaves in order to survive. As days grow shorter and colder, deciduous trees shut down veins and capillaries (that carry water and nutrients) with a barrier of cells that form at the leaf’s stem.

Called “abscission” cells, the barrier prevents the tree removal clovis from being nourished. Eventually, like scissors, the abscission cells close the connection between leaf and branch and the leaf falls.
